I took a break this morning and went to see Shawn Levy's reworking of "The Pink Panther" starring Steve Martin.

I don't really mind remakes or reworkings of famous films. If Hollywood were to suddenly announce that they were going to remake my two favourite films of all time ("The Day The Earth Caught Fire" and "Kiss Me Deadly" if you are remotely interested) with Nicolas Cage and Mickey Rourke respectively headlining, I would be quite interested, nay, excited at what they might come up with. (Actually, Mickey Rourke as a badasss Mike Hammer would be fascinating casting. Then they could cast Rose Byrne as Velda and somebody suitably white trash (Brittany Murphy, Chloe Sevigny?) as Gabrielle, and then... Oh do Shut Up John! You are getting off the point.) So, I wasn't going to be put off by the fact that Steve Martin was going to be portraying a classic comedy character, inextricably associated in the public's mind to Peter Sellers. I quite liked Steve Martin's take on "Sgt. Bilko", although I think I was the only one that did (and Phil Silvers was still the best, if I'm honest.)
So. Long story short. I went to see "The Pink Panther".
It was rubbish, but some of the slapstick was funny. Slapstick is always funny. I'll be kind. It was an agreeable timewaster. Nothing more and nothing less. Nice to see Jason Staham is getting work in international films, even when he has no lines. Emily Mortimer was still hot in glasses. I cannot see what all the fuss is about Beyonce Knowles. Clive Owen has got a sense of humour (who would have thought it?) Steve Martin and Jean Reno's dance is funny.
In other news, I have been doing some work on my CV. It's going badly. I am crap and unemployable, but you know that. After a while of struggling I got bored and played with my MP3 player. I uploaded "How Does It Feel?" which is the best compilation of a band called the Creation that I own, found a track called "Makin' Time" and played it very loudly while watching the 2006 season preview trailer of the new series of Doctor Who series. It matches perfectly. Perhaps I should suggest this to the BBC? Let's get the Creation into the British charts.
Lorraine will be home in 10 minutes. Fish and Chips and Pickled Onions and Pickled Eggs! Food of the Gods', I tell ya!

Funnily enough I don't mind working on CVs but then again I'm a professional bullshitter (Consultant) so I guess I've got the training for it! ;-)
Even the thought of that Pink Panther movie is making me shudder, I don't think I could sit through it, I really don't.
